As I am not working at the moment, I have been filling my time by working on some furniture painting projects I hadn’t had time to do. I had ordered some chalk paint from Annie Sloan. I am really enjoying this paint and finding out all the different ways that it can be used.
Here is a bedside cabinet that I purchased from a charity shop for £5.00
One can easily pick up post-war pieces relatively cheaply. This cabinet weighs nothing and is made of veneered plywood. The only solid thing about this piece was the legs. A fair amount of post-war furniture was made to look like they were antiques. What I liked about this little bedside cabinet was the shape of the legs, the pretty handle and the fact that there were no sharp corners.
Before painting with the chalk paint, it was necessary to unscrew and re-glue a couple of the legs. I lightly sanded it because the piece was heavily varnished, and then I applied two coats of ASCP in French Linen.
Then I painted the inside with ASCP in Versailles. I also painted a thin line around the top and sides in the same colour.
The Versailles green is a very nice complement to the khaki grey of the French Linen which has a slight green tint. I gave it a very light sanding and used 2 coats of wax.
There is a little surprise with this table…

There is a lovely glass shelf that slides out so you can put a drink or whatever you like on it! This cabinet is a nice addition to the guest bedroom. Not bad for a fiver and a few coats of paint!
