Fireplace Revisted

Fireplace Revisted

I have been using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint – ASCP for the last three weeks.  My fireplace was the first thing I painted with it.  Although it came out better than I thought it would, there was something not quite right for me.

Before and After

When I first contacted Annie Sloan about what colour to use that would go with my curtains in this fabric, they suggested Versailles green.  In my heart I wanted the green, but something made me afraid of using it!  I know that is sooo unbelievable, but it is true.  I, the one who uses bold colours in her art and in her furnishings (fuchsia sofas!), was afraid to paint a fireplace green.  So I played it safe and used pink with old white.  Then I painted my dining room chairs in pink.

It wasn’t until I ordered some more paint to paint the bedside table in the spare room that I fell in love with Versailles.  Yes, I am in love with a paint colour.  I have been looking for this colour for years!  This was the answer to my dining room table.  It looked really lovely against the pink chairs.  After I painted the table, the fireplace looked so wrong.  It was too light.  It looked ok when the table was brown, but now that the table was green, it lacked something – colour.

So, I painted the fireplace, again!  In Versailles green!  There must be at least 5 coats of paint on this thing now!

The green picks up other colours in the room and looks really lovely with the brown tiles.  It also complements the paintings sitting on top of it.  Right now it has one coat of clear wax on top.  I am not sure if I want to use the dark wax to  age it.  I am kinda liking the clean look of it right now as it makes a nice complement to the aged dining table in the same colour.

I guess I should have listened to Annie Sloan the first time!  :)
