I have had a lot of free time on my hands since I was made redundant in November 2008 and re-discovered the joy of reading books. This is what I have read or am currently reading since then:
Current
Strange Pilgrims, Gabriele García Márquez
Previous
Duma Key, Stephen King – Better than the last one I read!
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Steig Larsson – Very good. Am waiting to read the second novel in the series.
The Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseini – Now I need to see if the film is as good as the book.
Bag of Bones, Stephen King – I have read many of his novels as I am a big fan since having been scared witless while reading The Shining. I was a bit disappointed with this one.
Fifty is Not a Four-Letter Word, Linda Kelsey – Hmmm! Not as funny as I thought.
Deceived With Kindness, Angelica Garnett
Losses and Gains, Lya Luft – I love this book. It is very thought provoking and has provided insights into the nature of relationships and the ageing process.
The Devil and Miss Prym, Paulo Coelho
Brida, Paulo Coelho
The Witch of Portobello, Paulo Coelho
The Zahir, Paulo Coelho
What Lives on my Bedside Table
Seeing by José Saramago – His writing style is making it hard going for me. Although I am enjoying it, I am finding I must really concentrate too hard and so the pages don’t turn easily.
The Sedona Method, Hale Dwoskin – My Bible and Reference Guide
The Fatal Shore, Robert Hughes – The epic of Australia’s Founding – It is taking me years to read this as although very interesting, it is thoroughly depressing.
The Rough Guide to Argentina (Second Edition) – I am still on Section 1 – Buenos Aires and Around.
Living to Tell the Tale, Gabriele García Márquez – His biography. I am finding it more difficult to read than his novels.
So many books — so little time!
