Painting Irises in Watercolor

Irises - Watercolor on Bockingford - from a lesson
Irises – Watercolor on Bockingford – from a lesson

I just finished this painting from the book, Vibrant Flowers in Watercolour (Ready to Paint) Paperback – 7 Jan 2011 by Fiona Peart.  I used the same colors, but stronger: Winsor Blue, Cadmium Yellow, Naples Yellow, Cobalt Blue and Permanent Rose.

The original tracing was A3 size that I reduced to A4, and I didn’t use a marker to outline my drawing as suggested.  I used wet in wet technique on dry paper and when the paint dried, it made its own outline.

I think I am now starting to get a handle on basic flower painting, so I am going to have a go at one of my own next time. 🙂
